It is with much sadness that I am writing this. As I am sure you have heard about the F16 plane from the Air National Guard based in Toledo that crashed yesterday in Iraq. The pilot was the son of very close friends of ours. His parents were part of the 8 couples we ran around together with since school days and his father and Eldon went to school together since 1st grade. All of us including our children still get together every July for a picnic filled with many memories. His name was Kevin Sonnenberg from McClure, Oh. Kevin was such a special guy, taught school for a short time and decided he wanted to be a pilot. He accomplished this by joining the Ohio Air National Guard and was promoted to  Captain recently. He loved to fly F16's and was also a pilot for Delta Air Lines. Kevin graduated from NHS in 1983. He was funny and loved life. He was married last August to a wonderful girl who has a small son. We spent yesterday afternoon with the Sonnenberg family. It hurt so much to see them hurting so much. Some of the other pilots were there as well. Kevin leaves his wife, Lauren; parents, Marvin and Jean Sonnenberg; sisters, Vickie (Mrs. Jim Schulze), Diana (Mrs. Mike Reiser) and Jennifer (Mrs. Brent Miller). We were to get together again for our annual picnic on July 1st with the Sonnenberg's being the host. We have decided to cancel it for this year, as it just would not be the same.
